The Impact of Remittances on the Standards of Living of the Low Income Communities in Ghana
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This paper examines the flow of international remittances to Ghana from Europe, America, and other Countries and also looks at internal remittances within Ghana. The paper looks at the sources and uses of both remittances and tries to analyze its impacton the standard of living on the recipients and eventually its effects on the economy of Ghana as a whole. It is generally accepted that remittances seem to be much more stable source of income than other financial assistances which tend to be more volatile and flow into limited set of countries. Remittances to Ghana go direct to the lower and middle income groups which in effect go a long way to reduce poverty in the poorer communities in Ghana. This paper therefore analyses the extent to which remittances to Ghana has reduced poverty within certain families especially in the rural communities. There is enough evidence to show that annual remittances to Ghana has increase significantly over the years and more than doubled in recent tim
