Este capítulo se encuentra estructurado en forma de ensayo. El objetivo de los autores radica en describir algunos principios clave del chamanismo peruano y tailandés mostrados a través de la pintura. El texto contiene una interpretación de 5 obras del artista peruano Dimas Paredes y 7 obras de la artista tailandesa La Inthonkaew, que sigue una introducción teórica y breves pasajes biográfi cos. Los autores eligieron los ejemplos en colaboración con ambos artistas cuyo trabajo se nutre de raíces chamánicas. En la obra de ambos se refl ejan de forma consistente las visiones adquiridas durante los estados alterados de conciencia. Sin embargo, estos estados se alcanzan de una manera diferente en cada contexto cultural. En el chamanismo peruano es a través del uso de plantas psicoactivas, en el tailandés se obtiene por un ritmo monótono. Esta distinción resulta del simple hecho de que no hay un equivalente de las plantas psicoactivas del Amazonas en Tailandia. Además de las especifi caciones culturales, algunos de los elementos de los sistemas chamánicos de diferentes partes del mundo se manifi estan en las pinturas interpretadas.

This chapter is structured as an essay. The aim of the authors is to describe some key principles of Peruvian and Thai shamanism displayed in art works. The text contains an interpretation of 5 paintings by the Peruvian artist Dimas Paredes and 7 works by the Thai artist La Inthonkaew, which follows a theoretical introduction and short biographical passages. The authors chose the examples in collaboration with both artists whose work draws on shamanic roots. In their work, the visions acquired during altered states of consciousness are consistently reflected. However, these states are reached in a different way in each cultural context. In Peruvian shamanism it is through the use of psychoactive plants, in Thai it is obtained by a monotonous rhythm. This distinction results from the simple fact that there is no equivalent to the psychoactive plants of the Amazon in Thailand. In addition to cultural specifications, some of the elements of shamanic systems from different parts of the world are manifested in the interpreted paintings.
