El Centro de Rehabilitación de Toxicómanos y de Investigación de Medicinas Tradicionales Takiwasi que desde el ańo 1992 funciona en Tarapoto, San Martín, Perú, representa un puente entre la medicina tradicional amazónica, y la convencional, que se utiliza en los países europeos. La taza de efi cacia de su programa terapeútico en pacientes internos llega hasta 70% (27% alta terapéutica, 43% con alta voluntaria). Los elementos clave del programa son: convivencia entre los pacientes, psicoterapia y tomas de plantas. Durante el trabajo de campo en el centro, se identifi caron 73 preparaciones de plantas utilizadas en el tratamiento de la drogadicción. Las preparaciones se pueden dividir en 6 categorías según su uso: 1) laxantes; 2) eméticos, las llamadas &quot;purgas&quot;; 3) plantas utilizadas durante la dieta; 4) plantas utilizadas en bańos; 5) plantas utilizadas en la sauna; y 6) plantas de contención. Este capítulo contiene 30 fotos de elaboración propia de 17 plantas, que fueron seleccionadas para documentar las categorías mencionadas. Las descripciones incluyen la información sobre el uso de las plantas, su nombre científi co y común e indicación de la parte usada.

Takiwasi, the Center for the Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts and Research on Traditional Medicines, which has been operating in Tarapoto, San Martín, Peru, since 1992, creates a bridge between traditional Amazonian medicine and conventional medicine used in various countries. The level of efficacy of its therapeutic program in inpatients reaches up to 70% (27% therapeutic discharge, 43% with voluntary discharge). The key elements of the program are: cohabitation of patients, psychotherapy, and plant use. During field work at the center, 73 herbal preparations used in the treatment of drug addiction were identified. The preparations can be divided into 6 categories according to their use: 1) laxatives; 2) emetics, so-called &quot;purges&quot;; 3) plants used during the diet; 4) plants used in baths; 5) plants used in the sauna; and 6) adjuvants. This chapter contains 30 original photographs of 17 plants, which were selected to document these categories. Their descriptions include information on the use of the plants, their scientific and common name, and the designation of the part used.
