In 1990 -- 2000 the seasonal dynamics and flying activity of the species Episyrphus balteatus Deg. was determined in spruce and birch stands of the Děčín Sandstone Uplands on the basis of hoverflies (Diptera, Syrphidae) collected using the method of Moericke's dishes. During this period we saw two culminations of E. balteatus, i.e. in 1993 and 1997. The vegetation period differed in the length of the occurrence of the flies (11 -- 20 weeks) and date of the seasonal culmination.
