Landscape structure influences quality (ecological stability, degree of naturalness) of its ecosystems in significant rate, incl. representation of species indicating this quality. One of this species is freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera); representative of very sensitive and endangered water oligotrophic communities. Their main occurence in Czech Republic is enagaged especially on upper part of Vltava, Blanice and Malse rivers and their numerous affluents. Biggest middle-europian population of freshwater pearl mussel counting more than 100 000 mussels still survives in Blanice river basin in National Nature Monument (NNM) Blanice. Protected area spreads 295 ha with buffer zone 5 962 ha and seats wide floodplain covered by mosaic offorests, wetlands and mires meadows. Landscape structure of NNM presents target conditions with implemented rescue programm leading to improve quality of oligotrophic communities and enhance pearl mussel population.
