Differences in the Manual and Electronic Measurement of the Volume of Roundwood

The paper deals with differences in results of the manual and electronic measurement of roundwood in sawmills in the Czech Republic. Electronic scanning systems are described and two wide-spread systems (2D and 3D) are selected together with the measurement of logs over bark (o.b.) and under bark (u.b.). Values of log diameters and volumes measured by the systems are compared with results of the manual measurement using the Huber method. Differences are quantified according to logs and deliveries and relationships are given between volumes of logs determined by particular methods of electronic measurements and manual comparative measurement of the same logs. The present condition of the electronic reception of saw logs in the Czech Republic and its trends are discussed.
