Determination of damage to soil and root systems of forest trees by the operation of logging machines
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The study is focused on the impact of heavy hauling and logging machinery movements across soils and tree roots along skidding trails in forest stands. It is known, that logging and hauling operations cause certain damage in forest stands and extent of such damage is dependent on local conditions and details of the applied technology. However, possibilities of detection are dependent on sensitivity and information abilities of applied control methods. No internationally accepted simple visual method suitable for assessment of soil and tree damage still exists, therefore four similar control methods, mostly based on assessment of damage in soil surfaces, were tested. A modified method was selected for practical use in Czechia. The method consisting in evaluation of occurrence and depth of ruts, their watering and assessment of number of harvestor movements was applied altogether in 32 stands and seven forest enterprises at the total area of 262 ha. It was found, e.o. that harvestor logg
