The paper notifies of the present condition of research in the field of high-speed milling of wood at the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, MUAF in Brno. It describes the basic lay-out of an experimental stand and the condition of working out theprocedures of measurements. A new approach is described to evaluate the quality of the machined wood surface by means of the contactless scanning the wood surface by a topographic method using a confocal sensor on the Talysurf CLI 1000 apparatus. Resultsof the research are documented by selected diagrams and the discussion is carried out of results of particular methods.
