Possibilities and limitations of natural and artificial regeneration of English Oak in floodplain forest
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The paper analyzes factors affecting the natural regeneration of pedunculate oak on alluvial sites. Probability of success of the natural regeneration after abundant crop of seeds increases if the soil surface is scarified after the fall of acorns, whichat the same time prevents for a short time the growth of herbaceous and woody weeds. Seedlings under the shelter of the parent stand suffer from insufficient light and therefore, the parent stand should be removed within a year after seeding at the latest. The emergence of acorns may be endangered by climatic extremes (drought). Intensive protection of acorns against losses by small rodents and game as well as intensive weed control in the newly emerging stand are necessary. The natural regeneration can be considered successful if one year after seeding a minimum of five seedlings grows up on an area of one square meter.
