Natural mortality in beech-larch-oak-hornbeam forest stands on a nutrient-rich site at Training Forest Enterprise Masaryk Forest Křtiny (TFE) in the southern Moravia Region/Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The natural development and biodiversity of two mixed beech, larch, oak and hornbeam stands established from 1932 to 1942 were evaluated. In 1961, the stands were characterised as individually mixed, 25-year pole-stage stands with differentiated diameterat breast height (DBH) and height. In the two forest stands, larch occurred at 24% and 40%, whereas beech comprised 17% and 37%. After 42 years (1961 - 2003), the proportion of larch in these stands decreased to 35% and 23% in the "Larch" and "Babice" plots, respectively, whereas the proportion of beech increased to 39% and 52% in the "Larch" and "Babice" plots, respectively. In addition, differences in the A index values of the stands had nearly equalised by 2001. Differences were observed in the trends and magnitude of the changes in the A index between the individual species and plots. These differences were most evident with respect to larch, beech, oak and hornbeam.
