Non-destructive measurement of the tree stability using DIC method - methodological remarks
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Non-destructive testing of standing trees is specific area of plant biomechanic and arboriculture. As a tool for tree safety assessment, the pulling test is a standard procedure to measure tree stability nowadays. The Digital Image Correlation method (DIC) was employed to measure displacements and strains on standing trees to provide both general and detail analysis of their mechanical response during pulling test. This article represents methodological contribution to the field evaluation of stress-strain state on both levels of whole tree and its parts using tracking of markers and full-field strain evaluation using new device with sophisticated software for real-time image analysis. The DIC method was found applicable on pulling tests, however, its technical aspects are still challenging. It has been proven that the method is sensitive enough to measure strains under low loads within non-destructive test. DIC technique was mainly applied on whole stem bending and cavity detection, but also in an analysis of mechanical behaviour of branches and movement of root system. The field measurement setup is described and weak and strong aspects are analysed to identify future research tasks.
