Forest wood production in Tropical Africa
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Unlike the rest of the African continent and the world, Tropical Africa is endowed with vargin natural forests that continue to play a vital role to the global ecosystem and natural diversity for decades. These forests also provide a great deal of hard and quality timber and wood of species whose demand and value at the world is relatively high such as; African Teak, African mahogany, African ash, Afrormosia, Utile, African Cherry. Our investigation focuses on examining the trend in wood and timber production and export as well as the trend in deforestation in Tropical Africa. A statistical analysis of the linkages between tropical forest wood production, and deforestation were equally analysed. Findings demonstrate a linear increasing trend in both production and export of major forestry products, and continuous decrease in the coverage of the natural rain forests. We suggest that futher resaerch on the deforestation as a damage value of the Tropical African forests.
