Geodiversity as a hidden resource for local development: possibilities of geotourism growth outside the geoparks
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Geotourism is a form of natural tourism that focuses especially on the geological and geomorphological aspects of the landscape (which may be defined as geodiversity), however, according to the current holistic approach, it also allows to understand that geodiversity is closely related with all the other assets of the territory, such as biodiversity, archaeological and cultural values, gastronomy or architecture. In the last decades, the geotourism has shown a considerable growth all over the world and it is appreciated and accepted as a useful tool for promoting natural and cultural heritage and for fostering local and regional economic development especially within rural areas. Currently, the geotourist activities are promoted mainly within geoparks, but other regions also possess an important geotourist potential. The paper presents two case studies from Moravia (Czech Republic) where the assessment of geotourism potential was made by using detailed field research, assessment method and SWOT analysis. Results show that geodiversity can be considered an important resource for local and regional development. Based on this, conclusions about the possibilities of geotourism development outside the geoparks are outlined.
