Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Studies focusing on species richness and ecology of zooplankton in lentic freshwater habitats in the (sub)tropics are often focusing on pelagic taxa only. We studied the community composition, species richness and environmental associations of the cladoceran zooplankton in different tropical lentic water bodies in Pune District, India. One hundred and thirty-four samples collected from three main lentic water body types (pools, ponds and water reservoirs) were considered for the study. Species richness patterns differed according to water body type with water reservoirs having the relatively highest number of species. Cladoceran communities consisted of a few unique elements significantly associated to a particular water body along with several species common to all water bodies. Statistical analysis indicated that the species occurrences in these communities may be largely affected by fish presence, pH and salinity. In general, our study contributes to the knowledge of cladoceran biodiversity and community composition in tropical lentic waterbodies.
