Traditional methods used for measuring the geometry of power saw cutting teeth and the geometrical changes of the other parts of chains aused by their wear require relatively expensive measuring optical devices. The possibility to use methods of computer-based image analysis will enable to obtain very exact results with minimum costs and in a very short time. As a basis for the measurement, it is possible to use quality photographs in a front and lateral view or direct scanninig and photography by a CCDcamera directly connected to the relevant device. The method proposed will enable to determine deviations from the specified edge geometry and the size of wear of all chain links. Application of ..... the method is very advantageous in any tests where monitoring the parameters is necessary, e.g. in operational tests of power saw cutting parts, lubricating oils, in evoluting the effect of geometry on cutting rate, service life, vibration level, etc.
