The paper deals with evaluation of the taxonomic composition of wood used for shaped vegetation elements (SVE) in historical gardens and parks in the Czech Republic. The evaluation of the taxonomic composition took place in 21 important historical gardens and parks and the evaluated sample was 2 785 pieces of SVE with the total shaped (cut) surface 262 675 square meters (26,2675 hectares). The results support a use of a wide range of taxa for the creation of SVE. However, the dominant representation ispredominantly comprising only four basic taxa: Buxus sempervirens, Carpinus betulus, Taxus baccata and Tilia cordata. Outcomes of the evaluation of a taxonomic composition can be used as a theoretical basis for proposals and eventual renewals of SVE or their objects.
