IDENTIFICATION OF PROFESSIONAL PHAGOCYTES FROM BOVINE VIRGIN MAMMARY GLANDS BY SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The objective of this study was to describe the morphology of professional phagocytes (PP), identified by simultaneous light microscopy, as imaged by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The study was canied out in 12 virgin bovine mammary glands which were irrigated with physiological saline to obtain Iavages. All the lavages were subjected to bacteriological and cytological examination. No bacteria were detectable in any of the Iavages. Absolute cell counts, standardised to a constant volume of 20 ml,amounted to 1500000 ml +-O.9. The cell population of the Iavages included mononuclear phagocytes (MoP), which prevailed in the differential count, Iymphocytes, and neutrophils. PP were identified by SEM in nonadhering, adhering and migrating states. Eachofthese groups showed specific morphological pattems differing in particular in surface structures. The MoP population included non- vacuolised (monocyte-like macrophages) and vacuolised (macrophages) cells.
