Phenotypic selection of plus trees and plus stands of birch for reforestation of the Krušné hory Mts
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Birch sample trees were assessed in the Krušné hory Mts. table-land in 1998-1999. The sample trees represented the most frequent types of damage. The birches are under the influence of a cascade of various stresses of which the climatic stress is primary. Cambium and conducting tissues were damaged by frost. Since the birch ecotypes used here were improper (B. pendula), a survey was made of local, autochthonous birch populations (B. pubescens agg.). The measurements included particularly older birch populations or individual old trees which were then assessed for possible seed production. The team of authors visited a total of 11 localities situated in the central part of the Krušné hory Mts. and recommended 7 trees and 7 stands for being certified aselite trees and seed stands, respectively. The sources of identified seed can be used for further reforestation.
