During last 13 years Czech agriculture has been passing through a very difficult period. There are two main reasons behind these difficulties. The first is the transition of national economy from centrally planned economy to free market economy, as a result of political change in 1989.  The second important is the fact, that in this period Czech Republic has been going through the accession process to European Union. The economic reform and transition of Czech economy have brought a significant pressureto adaptation of agriculture to new economic conditions and market possibilities. The article deals with the process of RESTITUTION, PRIVATIZATION AND TRANSFORMATION. Further it describes the development of agrarian structure in the Czech republic within the period 1989 - 2001and summarises the situation of agricultural enterprises within this period.
