The aim of the paper is to give information on the procedure of determining the minimum requirement for band saw blades for the continuos operation of a PRIMULTINA band headrig in the production of hardwood and softwood lumber The paper assesses the consumption of band saw blades under actual working conditions (the saw rips unbarked logs in a production line without a metal detector) in the Křtiny Training Forest Enterprise (TFE) sawmill in Olomučany. Results of the method of study and calculations consist in the determination of the necessary number of saw bands for everyday working requirements With respect to working losses, the annual consumption of band saw blades is determined for ripping hardwood and softwood logs for one-shift to three-shift operation. Ways for increasing the effectiveness of saw band management
