Mycoplasma Infections in Cattle
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Some members of the Mollicutes family, commonly known as mycoplasmas, behave as saprophytes in their hosts, but others are responsible for a wide range of more or less serious infections. In cattle, the most important mycoplasmal pathogen, which causes contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, is Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides SC. Because of the implementation of effective and, in recent years, preventive measures, the majority of European countries have been free from this highly contagious disease for nearly a century. Cattle populations, however, may suffer from a variety of conditions due to other mycoplasma species, such as bronchopneumonia, arthritis, reproductive disorders or mastitis. To evaluate the current situation in the Czech Republic, we conducted a study involving animals of both sexes from different age categories that came from different locations and different breeds, and were raised for different purposes.
