Dealing with selenium deficit in Limousin breed calves by oral application of selenium to pregnant cows
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of the study was to evaluate microelement concentrations in meat calves after oral application of a selenium preparation to pregnant cows. A herd of the Limousin breed, which was fed by hay and silo forage in winter and was grazing out in summerwas monitored for two years. In the spring of the first year of the monitoring, blood samples were taken from 10 calves of 1 month of age on average and microelement concentrations were established. The average concentrations were 16.78 #mol/l for zinc and 8.28 #mol/l for copper, and the Se GSH-Px activity was 164.20 #kat/l. Since selenium deficit was diagnosed, a selenium/vitamin preparation (Combinal-Selevit sol. Ad us. Vet.) was administered orally in drinking water to pregnant cows in the next season. Next year, blood samples were taken from newly born calves and zinc and copper concentrations and Se-GSH-Px activity were established again. The first sample-taking was carried out at the age of 1 month, when the concentrations were 18
