In dieser Arbeit wurden 68 Fälle der nichtstrangulierenden Obstruktion des kleinen Colons bei Pferden ausgewertet, die im Zeitraum vom 1.10.1994 bis zum 31.12.2005 an der Veterinärmedizinischen und Pharmazeutischen Universität Brno (Tschechische Republik) behandelt wurden. Bei 53 Pferden handelte es sich um eine diffuse Impaktion, 15 Tiere litten an einer fokalen Obstruktion. Die fokale Obstruktion wurde bei 8 von 9 Vertretern kleiner Pferderassen und bei 6 von 7 unter 1 Jahr alten Fohlen diagnostiziert. Die Rektaluntersuchung ermöglichte die Diagnosestellung in 84,8% der untersuchten Fälle. Von den insgesamt 68 Fällen wurden 43 konservativ behandelt, 22 chirurgisch. Drei Patienten wurden wegen ernsthaft gestörten Allgemeinbefindens euthanasiert. Bei allen 43 konservativ behandelten Pferden wurde eine diffuse Impaktion diagnostiziert. Non strangulating obstruction of the small colon in the horse: 68 cases

In this study, we analysed 68 cases of non-strangulating obstructions of the small colon in horses hospitalised at the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, Czech Republic, since October 1, 1994 until December 31, 2005. A total of53 horses suffered from diffuse impaction, 15 from focal obstruction. Focal obstruction was found in 8 out of 9 cases in small breed horses and in 6 out of 7 cases in foals younger than one year. Rectal examination facilitated the correct diagnosis in 84,9 % of the examined horses. Conservative treatment was chosen in 43, surgical treatment in 22 out of 68 cases. Three horses were euthanised because of the seriously altered general status. All 43 conservatively treated horses were diagnosed with diffuse impaction of the small colon. Two of them were destroyed for economic reasons, 41 animals (95,4 %) recovered. Eight of the 22 surgically treated horses were diagnosed with diffuse impaction, 14 with focal obstruction of the small colon.
