Guttural pouch mycosis in horses: a retrospective study of 28 cases
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Medical records of 28 horses with guttural pouch mycosis diagnosed on Equine clinic Brno and Vienna between the years 1999 to 2011 were reviewed. Obtained data consisted of detailed retrospective evaluation of history, clinical signs, clinical-pathology,endoscopy, treatment and follow-up in these horses. The most commonly observed clinical signs were nasal discharge, epistaxis and dysphagia. In all cases the diagnosis was confirmed on the base of endoscopic examination of both guttural pouches. All 28horses had the disease unilaterally with the mycotic plaque situated towards the dorsomedial aspect of the medial compartment, covering internal carotid artery. Five horses showed a spread of the fungal infection via the median septum into the contralateral pouch, but without damage of nerve and vascular structures in this pouch. Three horses were treated medically, eleven horses underwent surgery (proximal arterial ligation/balloon-tip catheter plus proximal ligation/transendoscopic cli
