Successful management of hyperoestrogenism in a ferret caused by an 8 cm large neuroendocrine adenocarcinoma
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
A six-year-old spayed female ferret was presented due the presence of abdominal distension. Clinical examination revealed the presence of a large mass in the caudal abdomen, which was painful on palpation. Laboratory analyses showed anaemia (0.29 l/l, normal value 0.46-0.57 ll) and elevation of plasma oestradiol levels (850 pmol/l, pmol/L; normal value 69-145 pmol/L).1 radiography and abdominal ultrasonography revealed large ovoid cystic mass (8x5cm in diameter) in the caudal abdomen growing into the retroperitoneal space. Adrenal glands were ultrasonography normal with their size 6x3 and 5x3 mm. The mass was gently dissected from a. iliacae, aorta, v. cava and from ureters. Histopathological examination showed the presence of neuroendocrine adenocarcinoma originated from the APUD system. Recovery was uneventful and the plasma oestradiol and haematocrit levels were within reference ranges after 14 days postoperatively. Hyperoestrogenism is in spayed ferrets commonly caused by adrenal g
