PLASMA PROTEIN ELECTROPHORESIS IN HEALTHY CAPTIIVE GREEN IGUANAS
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Plasma protein electrophoresis is used as a routine test for health assessment in veterinary medicine, but there is still a limited number of studies regarding use of electrophoresis in clinical practice with reptile species1-7.Preliminary reference intervals for plasma protein electrophoresis in the green iguana have been reported, but the samples were examined only in females during one season4. The goals of this study were: a) to establish reference intervals for plasma protein electro-phoresis in the green iguana, b) to compare values between males and females, c) to identify season-related changes. Plasma samples were obtained from 21 healthy captive male and female green iguanas. Agarose gel electrophoresis was performed using an automated Hydrasys system.Four main protein fractions have been observed: albumin, alpha globulins, beta globulins and gamma globulins. Bisalbuminemia was observed in 4 out of 21 healthy iguanas. Differences between males and females were observed in alb
