Toxic effects of zinc phospide-containing bait granules in pheasants
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Toxic effects of zinc phosphide-containing bait granules were studied as a part of acute toxicity testing of the Stutox product which is used on a large-scale basis in the agriculture to control overcrowded common vole populations in the Czech Republic.Pheasants are non-target organisms for this rodenticidal bait. In all, 20 artificially reared adult pheasants were used for the study. As the biochemical parameters in pheasants are to a great extent variable, we used pre- and post-administration value comparisons in individual birds. Tissues of those birds that died due to the toxic effect of zinc phosphide were submitted to histopathological analysis. Standard biochemical parameters in pheasant suffering from acute intoxication by zinc phospide indicated liver and kidney damage. Values of biochemical parameters in those birds that survived even the thrice of the LD50 returned to the normal within a day from the administration. Histopathology indicates dystrophic changes in parenchymat
