The effects of microplastic on haematological and biochemical parameters in fish
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Microplastics (MPs) are 20 um to 5 mm large plastic particles that are a frequent contaminant of the aquatic environment. Knowledge of their impact on aquatic organisms are limited. In our assay, we targeted on polyethylene microparticles to assess their impact on the rainbow trout haematological and biochemical parameters. Four groups of fishes were used; the first was the control group, the second group was exposed to 0.5% MPs, the third group was exposed to 2% MPs, and the fourth group was exposed to 5% MPs for 6 week. Our study showed that polyethylene microparticles affect some haematological and biochemical parameters. Leukocytes (significant decline) and haematocrit level (significant increment) after exposure to microplastics compared to control group from haematological parameters were affected. Biochemical parameters (ALT, ammonia, lactate) showed significant decrease after exposure to microplastics compared to control group. This study revealed that MPs may have an important impact on the haematological and biochemical parameters which in turn may influence fish behaviour and endanger their health.
