This work is concerned with the development of practical methods for increasing grassland biodiversity. One of potential methods for restoration of biodiversity on arable land is seeding of regional seed mixtures including selection of plant components,making seed mixtures and choice of technology of establishment of species-rich meadows. A field experiment was carried out in the year 2000 on arable land with the aim of evaluating the development of species-rich meadows established by sowing differentseed mixtures and sowing rates (20 and 40 kg.ha-1). The results showed different development and a different role of individual components during four years of cultivation. Significant differences in herbage production and insignificant differences in characters between stands established by a different sowing rate are important from the viewpoint of the economy of meadow establishment.
