As modern universities are very much also business organisations with a lot of business activities on the "educational market", any method of increasing their competitive advantage might be very useful and interesting for them. Knowledge management seemsto be one of recent leading technologies in this direction, capable also to improve the attractiveness of universities. The aim of the paper is to analyze the nature of universities as knowledge organizations. It is focused on those possible steps in further university development which will stress their knowledge nature using a couple of possible solutions.
