New technologies give us a potential to improve quality of lives. But, if we wish to deliver something considered as indeed useful and beneficial from the users' perspective, we have to understand the thinking patterns in users' minds first. The paper introduces relevant rational choice theory and cognitive science concepts relevant to the problem and shows, how the theories might contribute to grasp the mental processes. Resulting simple models of evaluation and appropriation are briefly introduced inparallel.
