An idea of a large-scale ambient intelligence system based on a wide area wireless sensor network is presented, where the system could be able of monitoring the environment, evaluating the collected data and, if necessary, informing the workers in the environment about possible threats and possibly giving some hints for their rescue using their mobile devices. Such ?intelligent outdoor spaces? could use already existing and matured technology of both wireless sensor networks and ambient intelligence with a clear benefit for people situated there.
