Rondels as areas of the monitoring the passage of time and the polyfunctional meeting places of the Late Neolithic societies
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The following is only a brief summary of this very important topic. Rondels are located near settlements, but not in all sites from the Late Neolithic. We suppose therefore that these localities were central Late Neolithic settlements. Remarkably, in ditches of rondels, especially in southern Moravia, highly important archaeological finds have been revealed. First of all, are torsos of terracotta female statues, so called Venuses. We know, to date, of 13 rondels in southern Moravia. Eight rondels have one circular ditch (singel rondels) and five are double rondels. In the Czech Republic we have already registered a total of 36 rondels so far. Among them are 20 simple, 11 double and 4 triple rondels. One of them is a quadruple rondel (Kolín 1). Most of the rondels have four entrances directed in accordance with important astronomical dates in the calendar year, most probably in compliance with the sunrise on the date of the vernal equinox. Some rondels, however, could also be directed at sunrise on solstices. The orientation entrances into rondels but may be modified based on the relief of the local landscape. This is particularly true of the ridges of hills and mountains on the eastern horizon of the rondel, which could "delay" sunrises of the equinox or, at the time of the solstice, toward the south. Other entrances dissented due to this reason. We don´t exclude that the other rondels could also have directed their entrances to the moon and to significantly shining stars or constellations.
