Expressions of Persisting Conflicts in the Peace Treaties of post-Hussite Bohemia (1439–53)

This chapter aims at a study and comparative analysis of the peace treaties and resolutions on the renewal of peace from 1439–53 to identify and interpret the elements of the ongoing conflicts. Comprehensive research related to the creation of a complete database of the peace treaties for Bohemia in the given period is unfortunately not currently available. However, it is possible to draw on partial studies, detailed research on the institution of the Landfrieden, i.e. a legal instrument of a normative or contractual nature regulating forms of permitted violence (feuds), often ensured by respective peace associations. In medieval Bohemia the institution of the Landfrieden did not represent a standard instrument for maintaining stability, and it generally gained a regional character in relation to the emerging administrative structure.
