The current state and distribution of populations of Viola lutea subsp. sudetica and its hybrids in the Giant Mts
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Viola lutea HUDS. subsp. sudetica (WILLD.) NYMAN is a Sudetes-Carpathian subendemic species with small area in the eastern Alps in Austria. In the Czech part of the Giant Mts it is classified as a strongly endangered taxon (C2, §2) and in the Polish part of the Giant Mts as a critically endangered taxon (C1). The contemporary occurrence in the Czech part of the Giant Mts is monitored at 28 meadow enclaves, mostly in the eastern and central part of the Giant Mts. In the Czech part of the Giant Mts, a decreasing trend in the number of V. l. sudetica´s habitats was found compared to historical data. The biggest threat for this taxon today is probably introgressive hybridization, i.e. crossbreeding with introduced taxa Viola tricolor agg. and Viola x wittrockiana from Melanium section, where is also ranked V. l. sudetica. Hybridization and hybrid swarm of these violets in the Giant Mts were discovered in the 1970´s. Hybrids are spreading mainly on anthropogenic, disturbed habitats near paths or buildings, but the current trend shows that they are also able to expand into meadow plant communities, too.
