This summary describes results from the CEPHEUS study,which looked at the treatment of adults with a new diagnosisof a type of blood cancer called multiple myeloma thathad not been treated. In addition, adults in this study werenot able to undergo an autologous stem cell transplantfor various reasons, such as older age, health conditions,or social circumstances, and therefore were considered'transplant-ineligible'; or, they did not want to have at ransplant as part of their initial treatment and therefore wereconsidered 'transplant-deferred'. Researchers wanted to seeif a dding a treatment called daratumumab (D) to a standardcombination of other medicines known as VRd (whichincludes the medicines bortezomib [V], lenalidomide [R], anddexamethasone [d]) could help reduce the number of multiple myeloma cells found in the participant's bone marrow and preventthe multiple myeloma from getting worse for a longer period of time compared with getting justVRd. In the CEPHEUS study, half of the participants received D-VRd and the other half received VRd,and all participants stopped bortezomib after 8 treatment cycles.
