Phenotypic and genotypic variation of Phragmites australis: Comparison of populations in two human-made lakes of different age and history
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Populations of Phragmintes australis were studied in the litoral zones of two man-made lakes (South Bohemia, Czech Republic): Opatovický fishpond (constructed in 1510-1514) and Halámky sand pit (formed in 1970-1994). Phenotypic variability was assessed on the basis of shoot morphological and growth characteristics. Genotypic variability was detected using RAPDs which demonstrated a high clonal diversity in both habitats. The clonal diversity would be strongly underestimeted if it were based only on morphological differences. Based on analysis of 160 samples, four patterns of genotypic variation were detected, which were differently represented in the two populations. The findings support a model of colonization postulating that populations initiated byseeds are initially genetically diverse and over time become dominated by a few clones as a result of competition and selection.
