Interactive effects of ultraviolet and photosynthetically active radiation on photosynthesis, growth, and photoprotective mechanisms
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation represents an important environmental factor influencing the processes of photosynthesis, plant growth and development and thus the primary production of terrestrial ecosystems and carbon cycling. However, the interactions withother environmental factors are relatively little understood, and these can range from synergistic to antagonistic interactions. Within this study we focused on the questions: i) how photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) contributes to UV induced accumulation of photoprotective compounds, ii) how is PAR involved in physiological and morphological acclimation to UV radiation, iii) how this acclimation is modified by leaf age and barley genotype and iv) how such acclimation affects the subsequent response to high light stress. We found that PAR triggered photo-protective mechanisms which partially ameliorated the UV effects on photochemistry and carbon assimilation treatment and also induced accumulation of flavonols, mainly in young
