ZÁKLADNÍ ÚDAJE: Abstracts. D·A·CH 2025 Conference. Bern: University of Bern, 2025. s. 63-63. [DACH 2025: Meteorology Conference (Weather and Climate in Focus). 23.06.2025-27.06.2025, Bern]. ABSTRAKT: Microscale models for the urban boundary layers with high spatio-temporal resolution are typically driven by initial and boundary conditions. To achieve reasonable predictions applicable to heat stress or air quality inside urban canyons, the driving meteorological conditions should be precise. In such simulations, outputs from numerical weather prediction models (such as WRF, ICON, or ALADIN) are often used. Prescribed meteorological and physical conditions closely reflect a real-world situation. However, even with testing of specific aspects of planned simulations, several important effects are typically omitted. An example can be using outputs from operational forecasting runs, the conditions between two intervals given by regional scale models can quickly change which typically has a significant impact on output quality. Some models will have more precise results for heat wave periods, other models are better for winter-time periods, and other ones could be the best option for extremely stable conditions during smog episodes. Practically, a universal solution does not exist and it is very beneficial to test multiple models before the final setup is prepared. This contribution has two main objectives: 1) Introduce PALM-METEO, the tool that facilitates data preparation and interpolation from numerical weather prediction model outputs for the PALM model system. This tool is publicly available under a free license, providing an accessible solution for researchers working with LES-based urban climate modeling. 2) To show the practical impact of incorrect boundary conditions. Practical examples were simulated using the PALM model system, a microscale model based on the large-eddy (LES) principle. For the practical evaluation of the impact on the real environment, several output variables were used: air quality (PM2.5 and NO2), air temperature, biometeorological index UTCI, and wind speed. All simulations were compared with the NWP models and field campaign measurements including the lidar and microwave radiometer devices.
