Resolving binary systems down to Milli-Arcsecond precision through Stellar Intensity Interferometry with MAGIC and LST-1
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
We report on recent simulations and future prospects in Stellar Intensity Interferometry (SII) using the MAGIC and LST1 telescopes to study hot, massive binary systems. Through nanosecond-scale photon correlation measurements across long baselines, we aim to resolve sub-milliarcsecond stel- lar features and constrain key binary parameters, including angular separation, radii, and brightness ratios. Simulations of the spectroscopic binary alfa Virginis (Spica) illustrate the capability of SII to resolve close binaries and validate models of stellar evolution. With the MAGIC–LST1 interfer- ometer, we also aim to identify interacting binary systems exhibiting wind collisions or Roche lobe overflow: environments that may host particle acceleration and produce very-high-energy (VHE, E > 20 GeV) gamma-ray emission. Moreover, the short-period massive binaries accessible to SII are often progenitors of compact systems such as neutron star binaries or X-ray binaries, which are themselves key targets for VHE astroparticle-physics observations.
