Towards Low-cost Activated Carbons as Promising Adsorbents
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Volatile organic compounds and heavy metals which are mainly emitted from technological processes and operations as a part of wastewater or emissions within pharmaceutical, mining, dye or textile industry represent a serious environmental problem becauseof their harmful and toxic effects on living organisms and human health. Adsorption in a gas phase as well as in a liquid phase belongs among non-destructive ways how to remove these contaminants and also recover them. Thus, in this study the low-cost activated carbons have been prepared from cocoa pod husk and residue chars from pine wood gasification and dry distillation processes. Two different chemical activation agents (potassium hydroxide and zinc chloride), two different carbonization temperatures (650 and 800 °C) and two different raw material particle-size fractions (< 0.5 mm and 0.5-1 mm) were used. After preparation the ACs were compared with each other based on their textural properties.
