Bei einer Rettungsgrabung in Brandýs an der Elbe wurden viele Befunde mit menschlichen Skelettresten der Frühbronzezeit aufgedeckt. Darunter waren nicht nur Gräber der älteren, sondern auch 'Siedlungsbestattungen' der klassischen oder späten Phase der Aunjetitzer Kultur. Einige dieser Befunde stellen einen Übergang zwischen Gräbern und 'Siedlungsbestattungen' dar, d. h. sie stehen irgendwo an der Grenze zwischen diesen zwei Bestattungsformen. Anhand der Befunde aus Brandýs und weiterer ähnlicher Gräberaus Böhmen und Mähren arbeiten wir Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede innerhalb der frühbronzezeitlichen Siedlungsbestattungen heraus. In Hinsicht auf die Motivation für die Anlage derartiger Gräber sind verschiedene Hypothesen möglich. Aber es zeigt sich, dass die Niederlegung von Verstorbenen in frühbronzezeitlichen Siedlungsgruben nicht nur vereinzelt vorkommt, sondern so häufig, dass sie - zumindest in einigen Varianten - wohl als ein üblicher Teil des damaligen Bestattungsritus angesehe

During an archaeological rescue excavation in Brandýs nad Labem a large site from the beginning of the Bronze Age was investigated. Abundant evidence of the funeral rites of this period was documented - beside standard burials, the excavation identifiedseveral 'settlement burials' from the classical and late phases of the Únětice culture. Three of the features with human remains can be classified as being on the verge between 'normal' and 'settlement burials'. Using the findings from Brandýs and othersimilar graves of Bohemia and Moravia, we focus on the similarities and differences within the Early Bronze Age settlement burials. In terms of the motivation for such graves, various hypotheses exist. However, it turns out that the deposition of deceased individuals in settlement pits occurs so often that they - at least in some versions - probably should be regarded as a 'normal' part of Early Bronze Age burial rites.
