Der Vergleich von einigen Grundcharakteristika der Oppida und der ältesten königlichen Städte zeigt, dass sie sich nicht nur durch die Größe, sondern vor allem durch die Verteilung in der Landschaft unterscheiden. Die Lagen verraten, dass es sich um zwei Systeme befestigter Siedlungen handelt, die völlig unterschiedlichen Funktionen erfüllten. So war es nicht nur in Böhmen der Fall, sondern in ganz Mitteleuropa. Eine andere Situation besteht westlich vom Rhein, wo eine Verwandlung der gallischen Oppida zu römischen und dann mittelalterlichen Städten öfters zu beobachten ist.

A comparison of some basic characteristics of the oppida and the oldest royal towns shows that they differ not only in size, but above all in the distribution in the landscape. The locations reveal that there are two systems of fortified settlements that have completely different functions. It was the case not only in Bohemia, but in the whole of Central Europe. Another situation is to the west of the Rhine, where a change from the Gallic oppida to Roman and then medieval towns can often be observed.
