Considering regional diversity in the LBK/post-LBK transformation

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The roots of the LBK crisis and its transformation into less integrated post-LBK cultures is a long-standing issue of Neolithic archaeology. The debate is governed mostly by well-known examples of (ritualised) violence and a decline in settlement density. Although taking place only in specific regions, these elements are extrapolated for the LBK area in general. However, LBK was hardly a singular uniform entity, especially in its late phases. The paper will address the LBK/post-LBK transformation from a more regionalised perspective. It considers Central Europe a mosaic of very different trajectories where not all regions evince any considerable attributes of crisis. Also, it will debate the role of so-called inner peripheries – areas that stayed aside from the neolithisation process and where the indigenous populations or just hunting and gathering as the main subsistence practices might survive for a considerable time. Although these communities start to be inferred from the current biomolecular data, they still escape the conventional archaeological approaches. Therefore, their part in the LBK/post-LBK transformation will be assessed by comparing key social and cultural attributes before and after the LBK/post-LBK transformation.
