The author discusses the developments in the historiography on the Jews in the Bohemian lands in the 19th and 20th century, which has expanded significantly since the 1980s. The historiographical debates are mainly focused on concepts of modernization/modernity and identity/loyality and are characterized by the aim to avoid linear and homogeneous ascriptions. Nevertheless, a number of research gaps still exists. So far, the Jewish history of the Bohemian lands is mainly focused on its centre Prague and lacks distinct comparative and entangled studies. These analytical restrictions need to be overcome in order to achieve a more succinct contextualization within modern European Jewish history.
