A propos de la contribution des enlumineurs dans la Bible de Petr Zmrzlík de Svojšín

Les trois tomes de la Bible de Petr Zmrzlík de Svojšín, des années 1411–1414, sont abondament décorés, néanmoins ils étaient considérés comme un travail médiocre. Le changement dans le regard sur la qualité des enluminures a été apporté par Markéta Pražáková. On peut être d'accord que le Maître du Livre des Psaumes ait été l'enlumineur principal. Le peintre qui a exécuté la plupart des décorations des Epîtres de Paul s'approche de lui. On peut identifier aussi le travail du Maître d'Exameron de Prague et surtout du Maître de la Bible de Sigismond de Domažlice. Nous pouvons être d'accord avec l’identification du Maître de la Prophétie de Malachie. Par contre, il faut refuser l'identification de l'artiste appelé le Maître de la Prophétie de Joël. Trois miniatures attribuées à lui peuvent être considérées comme le travail du Maître des Merveilles du monde de John Mandeville, les autres ont été exécutées par le Maître de la Bible d'Anvers.

The Bible of Petr Zmrzlík of Svojšín, dated to 1411–1414, is rich in painted decorations, but up to now in research they have not been evaluated very highly. The decorations in the Bible have been newly analysed by Markéta Pražáková. It can be agreed that the main illuminator was the Master of the Book of Psalms, and an approach similar to his is evident in the work of another illuminator, who created the decorations for most of the Epistles of Paul. It is also possible to identify contributions to the decorations by the Master of the Prague Exameron and, in particular, contributions by the Master of the Bible of Zikmund of Domažlice. The work attributed to the Master of the Prophecy of Malachi has indeed been correctly identified as his, but not the work attributed to the painter named as the Master of the Prophecy of Joel. Three of “his” miniatures can be attributed to the Master of the Mandeville Travels, while the remainding are the work of the Master of the Antwerp Bible.
