The chapter recapitulates the development of German science in Bohemia from the 1860s until 1945. It concentrates on the development of the Society for the Support of German Science, Art and Literature (Die Gesellschaft zur Förderung deutscher Wissenschaft, Kunst und Literatur in Böhmen), which was founded in 1891 as a parallel to the Czech Academy of Science and Arts of Emperor Franz Joseph.
