Der Sammelband enthält Beiträge sowohl von tschechischen als auch von österreichischen Historikern und ist in drei Teile gegliedert (Am Verhandlungstisch, An der Peripherie, Hinter den Kulissen). In den einzelnen Abhandlungen werden Persönlichkeiten präsentiert, die in den ersten zwei Jahrzehnten des 20. Jahrhunderts in die deutsch-tschechischen Ausgleichsverhandlungen involviert waren. Dabei wird nicht nur der Frage nachgegangen, inwieweit die jeweiligen Akteure den Verhandlungsprozess beeinflussten, sondern es wird gleichermaßen untersucht, was für Beziehungen zwischen den Verhandlungsteilnehmern bestanden, welche Kommunikationsstrategien angewendet wurden und wie nach bestimmten Kompromissen gesucht wurde. Mit seinem biographischen und komparativen Ansatz sowie mit seinem Versuch, die Netzwerke zwischen den beteiligten Persönlichkeiten zu rekonstruieren, eröffnet der Sammelband eine völlig neue Perspektive auf das Thema der deutsch-tschechischen Ausgleichsverhandlungen.

The book is composed of three sections (At the Negotiation Table, At the Periphery, Behind the Scene) in which the Czech and Austrian historian focus on personalities that were closely linked to the Czech-German compromise talks in the first two decades of 20th century. Their studies are not limited only to adressing the issue to what extent the individual participants contributed to the settlement process, but they also analyse relations among the negotiators, their communications strategies and ways in reaching various compromises. With its biographical and comparative approach as well as its focus on reconstruction of networks that linked the participants together, the monograph offers a new perspective on the Czech-German compromise talks.
