Hunderte Bittschriften zu unterschiedlichsten Themen und in verschiedensten Formen erreichten jährlich die Staatsoberhäupter des 19. Jahrhunderts. Aber nicht nur die höchsten Entscheidungsträger der Monarchien und frühen Republiken wurden um Gnadengaben gebeten, auch bedeutende Persönlichkeiten in ihrem Umfeld oder in anderen Macht- und Einflusspositionen, wie Hochadelige, Mitglieder der Herrscherfamilien, Minister oder Parlamentsabgeordnete waren über diese Textsorte mit dem Volk verbunden und konnten dadurch nicht selten ein enges Patronagenetzwerk aufbauen. Der zeitliche Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem 19. Jahrhundert. Räumlich fokussiert sich der Workshop auf die Habsburgermonarchie (insbesondere die böhmischen Länder) sowie Preußen bzw. das deutsche Kaiserreich (insbesondere Schlesien).

Every year, 19th century heads of state received hundreds of petitions on a wide variety of topics and in a wide variety of forms. However, it was not only the decision-makers of monarchies and early republics who were asked for favours, but also prominent figures in their entourage or in other positions of power and influence, such as aristocrats, members of ruling families, ministers or members of parliament, who were connected to the people through this type of document and could thus build up a close patronage network. The temporal focus is on the 19th century. Spatially, the workshop focuses on the Habsburg monarchy (especially the Bohemian lands) and also on Prussia and the German Empire (especially Silesia).
