Die Studie untersucht das Olmützer Losbuch, ein deutschsprachiges Wahrsagebuch aus dem Mittelalter, das im Vlastivědné Museum in Olmütz aufbewahrt wird. Dieses illuminierte Manuskript gehört zum Typus des “Losbuchs mit 32 Fragen” und wird mit zwei verwandten Handschriften aus Heidelberg und Edinburgh verglichen. Die Analyse konzentriert sich auf die Struktur des Textes, die visuelle Gestaltung und den komplexen Verweismechanismus, der zur Ermittlung eines Orakelspruchs diente. Obwohl das Buch in seinem Aufbau erhebliche Fehler aufweist, wurde es dennoch intensiv genutzt. Die Untersuchung zeigt, dass mittelalterliche Losbücher nicht nur als Unterhaltungsmedien dienten, sondern auch moralische und soziale Botschaften vermittelten.

The study examines the “Losbuch mit 32 Fragen”, a German-language fortune-telling book from the Middle Ages, which is preserved in the Vlastivědné Museum in Olomouc. This illuminated manuscript belongs to the “Losbuch mit 32 Fragen” type and is compared with two related manuscripts from Heidelberg and Edinburgh. The analysis focuses on the structure of the text, the visual design, and the complex reference mechanism used to determine an oracle statement. Despite significant structural flaws, the book was still widely used. The study demonstrates that medieval lot books not only served as entertainment but also conveyed moral and social messages.
